An Architectural Masterpiece

People say that the Bund Center is a perfect work of art. It is true. Located at the prime location of Shanghai's famous Bund area, the two-in-one complex resembles a majestic throne, with the 50-floor office tower as its backrest and the 26-floor twin-tower hotel, as its two armrests. The crown atop the 198-meter-high office tower stands magnificently as a shining beacon along the city's horizon when illuminated, while its laser beams sweep across the night skies.

The throne-concept is echoed in the white-marble sculpture in the office tower lobby, known as "The Invisible King". Tall and majestic buildings are often compared to “kings”, as is with the Empire State Building in Manhattan, which was completed in 1923. When the Bund Center's crown was unveiled and the whole complex put into operation in 2002, the Bund Center became the symbol of modern architectural grandeur of the new millennium, intermingled elegantly with historical buildings from the 1920's and 1930's along The Bund.

Mr Elijah Widjaja, personally steered the selection and display of the hundreds of art pieces in tandem with his art team, consisting of both international and domestic specialists, to discover the best art pieces, be they by foreign or Chinese artists. The collection takes pride of place in the Bund Center, making it a public museum of art, differentiating it from other buildings in Shanghai.
